Northeast Ohio Regional Center for Adolescent Treatment

The Northeast Ohio Regional Center for Adolescent Treatment or NORCAT provides highly effective, compassionate residential treatment for adolescent males ages 12-18.

NORCAT equips young people with the knowledge and skills they need to break free from a chemical addiction. Residential programming is conducted 7 days per week, 24 hours per day for a minimum of 90 days, and includes:

  • Drug/Alcohol Education
  • Individual and Group Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Case Management
  • Behavior Modification Therapy
  • Activity/Recreational Therapy
  • Twelve-Step Integration
  • Continuing Care

State-certified teachers and aides provide on-site educational services, while primary care physicians supervise the adolescent’s medical needs.

Program Goals

Supported by a team of counselors, case managers, physicians and educators from the surrounding community, NORCAT focuses on the following goals:

  • To assist the adolescent in addressing the emotional effects of his chemical abuse or addiction.
  • To educate the client and his family or significant others about abuse, addiction and the recovery process.
  • To promote the client’s acceptance of his chemically abusive or dependent identity.
  • To integrate the client into outside support groups, including AA, NA and other faith-based and civic organizations.
  • To help the client explore healthier lifestyle choices, offering alternatives to chemical use, abuse or dependency, and referring, when appropriate, to other community resources.

Why NORCAT?

Specialized

N.O.R.C.A.T. is the only long-term residential facility in Northeast Ohio that specializes solely in the treatment of adolescent males with alcohol or other drug problems.

Effective

Last year, 80% of program participants successfully completed the program, 70% maintained abstinence from alcohol and drugs for at least 6 months after completion, 90% increased their academic grades by 2 letters, and 95% had no new contacts with the criminal justice system.

Client-Centered

NORCAT only serves up to 24 adolescents a time, which allows for highly individualized, compassionate care.
