Ohio Governor appoints CEO Larry Moliterno to advisory council
August 2007-Larry Moliterno, CEO of Meridian Services, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Ohio Council of Behavioral Healthcare Providers. Mr. Moliterno replaces Sandy Stephenson who was recently appointed by Governor Strickland as Director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health.
The Ohio Council is comprised of over 160 private organizations providing behavioral healthcare services in Ohio. It is governed by a 15 member Board of Trustees elected by the membership. The Board provides strategic direction for the Council and leadership to the organization’s committees.
Prevention Partners Plus hosts 2007 P.A.N.D.A. Junior Camp
April 2007- Over 40 Valley young people attended PANDA² Junior 2007 held at Camp Muskingum April 13-15.
While adult staff members attended, PANDA Junior 2007 was actually planned and organized by a Youth Staff comprised of 9 students from all over our community. PANDA Youth Staff are chosen for their exceptional leadership abilities, good grades, and commitment to community service.
The theme for this year’s camp was Hollywood, with the slogan of “Drugs are lame and they don’t get you into the Hall of Fame”. The camp is designed to build leadership skills, improve confidence, and help kids understand the negative effects of substance abuse and violence. Camp activities include team building exercises, small group discussions about substance abuse, peer pressure, bullying, and internet safety, nigh hikes,
and a talent show.
Meridian launches WorkLife
March 2007- Meridian Services officially launched its newest division at an Open House Reception on Friday March 16th beginning at 11:00 a.m. CEO Larry Moliterno introduced Meridian WorkLife which has been established to assist area
businesses in providing employee assistance programs, as well as managing drug and alcohol screening for employees.
Meridian Services participates in criminal justice collaborative grant
October 2006- The Mahoning County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services was one of only six boards across the State of Ohio to receive a $425,000 grant to expand treatment services for individuals involved in the criminal justice system. The purpose of this expanded criminal justice collaborative is to reduce drug related criminal recidivism and reunify families.

Meridian Services hosts kick-off Mahoning Valley Mentoring Day
October 2006- Meridian Services hosted the kick-off of the first annual Mahoning Valley mentoring day on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the main branch of the Mahoning/Youngstown Public Library. The day was set aside to promote public awareness of the impact mentoring has on the lives of young people. State Representative Ken Carano, Mahoning County Commissioner John McNally; and 4th Ward Youngstown City Councilperson Carol Rimedio-Righetti presented proclamations declaring October 5th as Mahoning Valley Mentoring Day.

Meridian Services Sponsors Problem Gambling Training
March 2006 - Meridian Services sponsored an educational training on problem gambling at the Austintown Public Library on Friday, March 24, 2006 from 2:00pm to 4:30pm. The training, entitled Problem Gambling: Where We Are was held in recognition of problem gambling awareness month in March. Various topics were discussed, including the history of problem gambling, signs and symptoms, and practical helping strategies. The highlight of the training was a panel discussion comprised of problem gamblers in recovery, who shared with the group their own personal struggles with gambling addiction.
Prevention Partners Plus Hosts Annual Breakfast with Santa
December 2005 - Up to 300 children attended “Breakfast
with Santa” at the YMCA from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 17. Sponsored by Prevention Partners Plus, with help from the Youngstown Reads Early Americorps, “Breakfast with Santa” combined the importance of reading and literacy with the joy of giving and serving. While children ate breakfast, received gifts and had their pictures taken with Santa, Americorps members read stories aloud, reinforcing the importance of literacy and the fact that children who are read to regularly receive the foundation for lifelong academic success, organizers said.
Meridian Services selected to participate in NIDA research grant
October 2005 - Meridian Services, Inc. was one of five organizations throughout the country selected to participate in the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network. The CTN seeks to bridge the gap between cutting edge scientific findings about drug abuse and addiction and their application to clinical practice.
